Last time, we sat with the part of the Serenity Prayer most of us know by heart—the part that teaches us to accept, to act, and to discern.
But my late-night research didn’t stop there.
What I found next made me pause, reread, and whisper, “Oh… this changes everything.”😌
Because the Serenity Prayer doesn’t end with wisdom.
It continues.
And the rest of it adds flesh to the bones of the prayer we quote so easily.
Here is the part many people have never heard:
“Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it;
Trusting that You will make all things right
If I surrender to Your will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.”
Whew.
This isn’t just a continuation—it’s an invitation.
Let’s sit with it.
Living One Day at a Time
This line gently reminds us that God never asked us to carry tomorrow with today’s strength.
Daily bread.
Daily grace.
Daily trust.
So much of our anxiety comes from trying to live life in fast-forward, but peace is found in staying present. One breath. One step. One day.
Accepting Hardship as the Pathway to Peace
This line stretches us.
Because we want peace without pain.
But Scripture and experience teach us that growth often comes through pressure. Hardship doesn’t mean God has left—it often means He’s shaping something deeper within us. And Melody can surely testify to that.
Peace, in this sense, isn’t the absence of trouble.
It’s the presence of God within it.
Taking the World as It Is
This line feels especially relevant today.
Jesus didn’t wait for a perfect world to love it.
He entered brokenness with compassion, truth, and grace.
When we stop expecting the world to behave better than it does, we free our hearts to respond with wisdom instead of frustration.
Trusting God to Make All Things Right
This is the heart of surrender.
- Not control.
- Not forcing outcomes.
- Not manipulating results.
Just trust.
A quiet confidence that God is still working—even when we don’t see immediate answers.

Reasonably Happy Now… Supremely Happy Later
I love the honesty here.
God doesn’t promise nonstop bliss on this side of earth’s living.
But He does offer contentment, peace, and joy that sustain us.
And then—eternity.
A reminder that this life is not the final chapter.
What feels heavy now will one day be lifted forever.
Let me tell you why all this matters…
If the first part of the Serenity Prayer helps us navigate decisions, the second part helps us frame life.
It teaches us how to:
- stay present
- endure hardship
- surrender control
- trust God’s timing
- live with eternity in mind.
It’s not just a prayer to recite—it’s a way to live.😌
I came and stopped by Nuggetland just to say this:
Don’t rush past the rest of the prayer.
Don’t skim over the lines that invite you to slow down, stay present, and trust God with both the now and the next.
Sit with it.
Pray it slowly.
Live it intentionally.
And if this nugget fed your spirit even a little, share it with someone who could use a reminder that peace is not always instant—but it is always possible when we surrender to God.
Until next time, breathe deep, walk gently, and let serenity keep rising.
