More Than a Final Whistle

Spread the love

Now I realize why I couldn’t find anyone yesterday afternoon.

The world had stopped.

Phones were in hands. Living rooms were full. Restaurants were louder than usual. Eyes were glued to television screens as millions watched the World Cup final.

I’ll confess something.

I had no idea who was playing.

Yes… I know. Please don’t revoke my citizenship. I was busy doing other things.

Later, as I scrolled through everyone’s posts, I saw the heartbreak. The celebrations. The memes. The debates over referees. The praises for Messi. The applause for Spain.

And it got me thinking.

For more than 100 minutes, Argentina held on. Messi searched. Spain pressed. Pass after pass… tackle after tackle… neither team could find the net.

Then, in the 106th minute, one opening changed everything. One well-timed run. One decisive finish. One goal.

The trophy belonged to Spain.

Isn’t that how life is?

Sometimes we think God is judging us by the first half of our story.

We panic because nothing seems to be happening. We pray, but heaven feels quiet. We obey, but the breakthrough doesn’t come. We wonder if all our effort is for nothing.

But God isn’t watching the clock the way we are.

He’s watching our faithfulness.

Galatians 6:9 whispers from the sidelines:

“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

The Christian life isn’t won by flashy footwork.

It’s won by faithful steps.

Sometimes God asks us to keep passing…
to keep defending…
to keep trusting…
long before He allows us to score.

And sometimes, like Messi, even the greatest players don’t walk away with the trophy.

Because our value was never in the trophy.

It was always in whose team we belonged to.

Paul put it this way:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Notice he didn’t say, I won every game.

He said, I kept the faith.

Nuggeteers, heaven isn’t looking for perfect statistics.

It’s looking for faithful players.

So whether you’re celebrating a victory today or walking off the field disappointed…

Stay in the game.

Yesterday, millions held their breath, waiting for the referee’s final whistle.

When it sounded, one team celebrated, another grieved, and the match was over.

But there is another sound the Bible tells us to listen for.

One day, it won’t be a referee’s whistle echoing through a stadium.

It will be the trumpet of God echoing through the heavens.

And when that sound is heard, there will be no extra time…
no second half…
no penalty kicks…
and no opportunity for a comeback.

The game of life will be over.

Until then, keep running.

Keep trusting.

Keep passing the ball of faith to the next generation.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Because heaven isn’t preparing a trophy for the most talented player.

It’s preparing a crown for those who remain faithful until the very end.

The world’s final whistle ended a game.

God’s final trumpet will begin eternity.

Nuggeteers… make sure you’re ready. ❤️
