Have you ever gone on a frantic treasure hunt in your own bookshelf? That was me this week—tearing through pages like a detective in a crime novel, desperately trying to find that one passage that rocked my world a few years ago.
But here’s the plot twist: the book was so good that instead of just skimming for my golden nugget, I got completely sucked back in—hook, line, and sinker—reading the entire thing again.

I was on a mission to find a phrase that had once knocked me off my lukewarm Christian couch and left me staring at my reflection, realizing I wasn’t quite the spiritual powerhouse I thought I was. More like a dimly flickering candle… in a windstorm. 🪔

Ouch. It was a wake-up call—the kind that makes you sit straight up and say, “Wait… I’m quite far from the mark?”
And before you start thinking I’ve got it all figured out—hold your hallelujahs! I’m still in the chrysalis, folks. Transformation is in progress.
The Book That Shook Me (Again)
The book? Closing Prayers by Randy Maxwell.

And here’s the part that hit me (again!):
Why does revival tarry?
Perhaps we need to start with the simple question: Have you been born again? Have you settled for church instead of change? And if your first response is, “How much change are we talking about?” I’ll answer that by asking: How much change does it take for a caterpillar to become a butterfly?
Boom. Let that sink in.

Metamorphosis: Not for the Faint-Hearted
So how much change are we willing to go through? Metamorphosis is dramatic. A caterpillar doesn’t just slap on some wings and call it a day. Nope. It dissolves into goo before emerging brand new. Sound uncomfortable? It is. Real change always is.
And Jesus didn’t call us to mild adjustments—He called us to full-on death to self and total rebirth.
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)
This isn’t about tweaking a few bad habits. It’s about a new heart, a new mind, a new life. It’s the difference between sticking a jetpack on a caterpillar (cute idea, still crawling) and actually becoming a butterfly (soaring high and free).
The Million-Dollar Question
As if that question wasn’t interrogative enough, the following surely had me dumbfounded;
Are we choosing change over church?
Are we seeking the Vine over just the fruit?
Here’s the big question we can’t ignore: Are we ready to stop crawling through life, clinging to what’s comfortable, and instead embrace the messy, beautiful process of becoming brand new?
The King is coming soon. He’s not looking for caterpillars trying to blend in at church. He’s looking for transformed lives—souls that are soaring on the wings of grace and fully surrendered to Him.
So, are you ready to pray that bold, dangerous prayer?
Lord, change me.
Because when you do, the same God who turns caterpillars into butterflies will turn your “impossible” into His masterpiece. Let’s choose transformation. Let’s choose Him. Let’s soar.
